Our Story

From a kickabout in the park to a thriving football community — this is the story of Joy FC.

Club History

Born from
Passion

Joy FC was founded in 2011 by Dr. Bayogar A. McCritty, Sr. with the vision of giving back to the community, empowering young people, and promoting a deep passion for football. What began as informal matches on a local backyard pitch soon evolved into a structured and ambitious football organization.

Within two years of its establishment, Joy FC officially joined the Liberia Football Association (LFA) as a Third Division club and earned promotion to the Second Division after only its second season in the league. The club established its roots within the Banjor and Virginia communities, while building a talented squad drawn from neighboring areas including New Kru Town, Caldwell, Brewerville, and surrounding communities. More than just a football club, Joy FC developed into a close-knit family committed to supporting one another both on and off the field.

In 2018, following the departure of its founder, Dr. McCritty, to the United States to pursue his doctoral studies, the club experienced operational and performance challenges that eventually led to a temporary suspension of activities. However, upon his return to Liberia, the club underwent a comprehensive reorganization and restructuring process. With renewed leadership, improved management systems, and the support of corporate sponsorship, Joy FC re-emerged with a stronger vision and a clear objective of becoming one of Liberia's premier First Division football clubs.

Today, Joy FC is home to more than 60 players, supported by a committed coaching staff and a loyal community of supporters who firmly believe that the beautiful game should be accessible to everyone. As part of its strategic development agenda, the club will focus its resources throughout 2026 on rebuilding and strengthening the team in preparation for participation in the 2027 Third Division League season. Joy FC is currently owned and supported by a group of dedicated sports enthusiasts, with Signal Technologies Group serving as the club's corporate sponsor.
